Memorial of the Landing by Gen. Douglas MacArthur
The statues of General Douglas MacArthur and his troop are erected at the Red Beach in Palo, Leyte. This is to commemorate the return of Mac Arthur to the Philippines, which was a very important event in liberating the Filipinos from the Japanese Imperial Army. When Gen. Mac Arthur left the country to report to the United States, he uttered the famous words “I shall return”; when he finally returned to the shores of Leyte, he declared “I have returned.”
The Santo Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum
This museum highlights the culture and history of the Leyte province. Masterpieces of the renowned Filipino painter Fernando Amorsolo are also featured here.
San Juanico Bridge
This beautifully-designed bridge is the longest bridge in the Philippines. It connects Leyte and Samar across the San Juanico Strait.
