About Tarlac and its History
InformationBecause the province has no direct access to the sea, its main economy is based on agriculture, particularly rice and sugarcane. In fact, it is common to see truckloads of fresh crops during the harvesting season. Tarlac is the home of Ninoy and Cory Aquino, democracy icons in the Philippines. Their mementos are safely kept in a museum. Local dialects include Kapampangan and Ilocano, but people from Tarlac can speak Tagalog as well.
Brief HistoryTarlac is located in Central Luzon and is the last province to be organized in the area. It is famous for being one of the first 8 provinces to revolt against the Spaniards, represented by one of the 8 sun rays found on the Philippine flag. The constitution of the Philippine Independent Church was first drafted in Paniqui, Tarlac, calling for the Filipinization of the clergy.
