About Taguig and its History

Information

Taguig started out as a fishing community, but has since evolved into a metropolitan commercial district, largely due to the C-5 highway construction, as well as the development of Fort Bonifacio. Many companies have, in fact, relocated from Makati City to Taguig. Despite this, visitors can still enjoy the freshest catch from Laguna de Bay.

While Fort Bonifacio is one of the favorite places Filipinos go to for night-outs, Bonifacio Global City holds many office buildings. Taguig is also home to one of the country’s world-class hospitals, St. Luke’s Medical Center that offers amenities comparable to that of a hotel.

Brief History

During the American Colonial Period in the Philippines, the US government acquired some parts of Taguig and turned it into a military base. This was once known as “Fort McKinley”, later changed into “Fort Bonifacio” after Andres Bonifacio, the Father of Philippine Revolution against Spain. Taguig was once part of the Rizal province, but is now one of the seventeen cities in Metro Manila.
