About Ortigas and its History

Ortigas Center is the second most important commercial business district in Metro Manila, Philippines. It is located at the boundary of Pasig City, Mandaluyong City, and Quezon City. Because of its location, Ortigas has become a choice work area for many people residing in the northern part of Metro Manila, as well as for call center businesses.

Other than office buildings, many skyscrapers, shopping malls, schools, bars, restaurants, and hospitals scatter around the area. There are three major malls in the area:
  • Megamall, a super mall developed by powerhouse company, SM
  • Robinson's Galleria, which stands by a famous EDSA Revolution landmark
  • Shangri-la Plaza Mall, a high-end mall developed by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts

The Podium is another mall in the area - a smaller complex compared to the three malls above, but with a niche market for upscale brands and restaurants. Many do not know that this is also a project of SM.

Likewise, the area has its fair share of budget hotels and internationally-renowned luxury accommodations. Simply put, the city is self-sufficient.

Brief History

Ortigas Center was known as “Hacienda de Manaloyon” when it was acquired by Francisco Ortigas and his partners. From a virtual wasteland, the area was turned into a progressive urban complex that is now home to many prominent commercial establishments
