About Mandaluyong City and its History

Information

Mandaluyong City is often referred to as "The Heart of Metro Manila", because of its very central location in the Metropolitan Manila. To its west is the country's capital, Manila, to the north San Juan, to the east Quezon City and Pasig City, and to the south, Makati City.

The “Shopping Mall Capital of the Philippines” can be further divided into two parts: the eastern Pasig City and the western Ortigas Center. As its nickname implies, many shopping malls are built near each other in this area. Beside these malls are numerous high-rise condominiums and hotels ready to be occupied.

Brief History

Mandaluyong was once known as San Felipe Neri, a name given by the Spaniards. It was merged with the San Juan del Monte municipality during the American Period. In 1907, San Felipe Neri was separated from San Juan and declared an independent municipality. Finally, in 1994, it attained city status.
