About Boracay and its History
InformationThe famous Boracay Island beckons its visitors with white, talcum-fine beaches, balmy weather, and warm, crystalline waters. Various activities such as riding a banana boat, windsurfing, helmet diving, snorkeling, and island hopping are offered by different boatmen scattered on the island.
In this tiny, butterfly-shaped Boracay Island at the Northwestern tip of Panay in Western Visayas, days can be spent simply lazing on the Boracay beach while nights are for indulging in the tropical party lifestyle. Boracay is divided into 3 stations: Station 1 houses the upscale hotels and resorts where guests can enjoy a peaceful, relaxing day at the beach. Station 2 on the center contains the market, souvenir shops, and several restaurants. Station 3 has more budget hotels and resorts as well as massage places. Throughout the island, fine white sand and crystal clear waters can be enjoyed.
Brief HistoryBoracay was the original home of the Negrito tribe. It used to be a secret place of the natives of Aklan. Tourism began to develop during the 70ís, and during the 1980ís, it became a popular destination for backpackers and beach lovers. Since then, the once secret Boracay is now a developed beach visited by people from all parts of the world. In fact, Starbucks and Yellow Cab have been recent additions to the ever-growing outlets around the island.
