Facilities and Amenities

Hemingway Cigar Lounge

A place where you may enjoy fine cigars anytime at the Peacock Garden is the Hemingway Cigar Lounge, named after the famous American author Ernest Hemingway, most noted for the novel, The Old Man and the Sea. Hemingway lived in Cuba for 22 years, and after his death, the government maintained his 21-acre estate there and turned it into a shrine-like museum. This is perhaps the reason why, in 1986, the cigar brand Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia began producing a line of cigars named Hemingway. Each cigar has a different size and is named after literary pieces such as Short Story, Best Seller and Masterpiece.

You can tell the Hemingway Cigar Lounge is very distinct from anywhere else in Peacock Garden from its aroma of leather, masculine ambience and the feeling of comfort and excitement it evokes. Here, one may partake in the moderate selection of cigars and liquor while looking at the photographs of famous personalities smoking cigars, such as George Clooney, Fidel Castro, Winston Churchill, Che Guevara, Ernest Hemingway himself and many more. Furthermore, photos of Dr. Jose Rizal’s girlfriends are also displayed here. Here’s another piece of trivia about this room: inside is one particular set of chairs that dates back to the late 1800s, and which originally comes from a castle in Europe.

Fontana Aurelia Spa

The Fontana Aurelia Spa is the Latin name for “golden fountain” and was created in memory of Mr. Schoof’s grandfather, Mr. Louis Weyer, who opened a Spa Hotel in Wiesbaden in 1906 and had given it the same name, but in German: the Goldenner Brunnen. During that time, Wiesbaden was popular for its healing hot springs, but Goldenner Brunnen also offered massage treatments as well.
With a Roman theme, the Fontana Aurelia Spa has calming, classic interiors that will calm your mood and titillate your senses. There are separate facilities for men and women for the utmost privacy, but there is a common treatment room that overlooks a most stunning ocean view. Should you wish to luxuriate in a half-day or whole-day indulgence at the spa, you may stay at the beautiful and luxurious Spa Suite with a personal Jacuzzi, overlooking both the forest and the ocean. The signature Peacock Garden massage is a decadent four-handed massage, but what better way to start your royal treatment while at the resort?

Bacchus Wine Cellar

Also found at the Peacock Garden is the Bacchus Wine Cellar. Named after the god of wine in Greek mythology, this wine cellar boasts of a wide selection of fine wines from around the world, worthy of any luxury hotel. Upon entry to the cellar, one immediately thinks of being whisked away from a hilltop luxury resort to the Old World. Because of its warmth and comfort, this is a perfect place for a wine lover to be.

Pim’s Pub

What is a luxury resort destination without a little entertainment? Pim's Pub, named after Mr. Schoof's childhood nickname, which he adapted from the book, The Pims Family, also has its roots from Mr Schoof’s first restaurant in Wiesbaden which he opened back in 1969. The new Pim’s Pub is the only one of its kind in Bohol, and with all its modern facilities, it offers a super party atmosphere. You’ve definitely got to see it to believe it, and what better way to begin your night here than with the famous house drink, Pim’s Number One.

Old Heidelberg Restaurant

One of the last but definitely not the least of facilities here at Peacock Garden is its fine dining outlet, the Old Heidelberg Restaurant. This was named after the city in Germany where the beloved national hero Dr. Jose Rizal lived the longest while he was abroad. If you remember well, this was also the name of the same restaurant that Mr. and Mrs. Schoof used for their restaurant in Manila, which they began in 1986 and maintained for eight years. You may wonder, what is Mr. Schoof’s fascination with everything Rizal? If you really must know, it is because, since 1987, he has been a lifetime member of the Knights of Rizal—he was even once the Deputy Supreme Commander.

Here at Old Heidelberg, you will find the Schoof family’s personal collections of fencing swords, beer mugs, hats, canes and more, previously used by fraternities in Europe. Walls are covered with postcards depicting cities around the world that Dr. Rizal visited. At the entrance here is the original sala or living room set where Dr. Rizal sat, a gift given by Pastor Hack Ullmer to the Schoof family. If this set was not in the care of the Schoofs, it would most likely already be at the Rizal shrine in Calamba. Also used here are antique chairs from castles in Europe. The Old Heidelberg Restaurant is European-inspired fine dining at its best with just a touch of Asian, as it offers a menu that makes use of both local and imported ingredients. Eat and enjoy from a wide selection of German beers here, as you sit back, relax and learn a little bit of Schoof history.
